Key Facts: The LinkedIn Insight Tag tracks website visitors and links their behaviour to their LinkedIn professional profiles, enabling LinkedIn to serve them retargeting ads — processing data for LinkedIn's own advertising purposes. Irish DPC fined LinkedIn €310 million (Oct 2024) for processing personal data for behavioural advertising without valid legal basis, insufficient transparency, and improper reliance on legitimate interest. LinkedIn disabled sensitive-data ad targeting in the EU (Jun 2024) following DSA enforcement.
